One of our core missions at Wildscapes is food security for humans and wildlife. One of the ways we achieve that is through permaculture. Permaculture is both an agricultural and cultural revolution happening worldwide. Its traditionally defined as a design style for food systems that mimic nature. However, permaculture is much more than that. Permaculture is the recognition that food is best served locally, through community action, and produced in a way that gives back to our ecosystem. Through the pursuit of blending small scale market garden techniques and integration of habitat into our food systems we actually end up with higher yields per acre, with less input.
By creating a web of urban gardens in our community that feed each other, we increase our community resilience and overall food security. Humans can be so powerful when we work together, and that is what this program is based on.
If you are interested in having a garden installed, and being put in a local permaculture group where you can be apart of a community who helps each other because life is easier when we work together, then this might be the place for you!
What we are looking for in a group member:
Willingness to contribute either through labor, advice, seed share, water someone’s garden while they’re busy, host gatherings for the group, plant something someone else can’t grow in exchange for what they can grow, share recipes, offer group support, or coordinate excess harvest drop offs to local food banks.
Willingness to learn how to grow in your yard and collaborate with community members.
You have a space that can be dedicated to a garden either your landscaping or a large area.
You are in the Springfield Mo area!
What you DON’T need
Experience or extensive knowledge.
Money. Often the people who need fresh local food access the most are the ones who cannot afford a private gardener. THATS OKAY. Installation and plan for gardens can be negotiated for barter or trade. If you are interested but have no money, there are ways to barter for goods and services. Please see form below.
Already have an urban garden or don’t want help installing but you still want to join the community? Fill out the form and just say so! Anyone willing to contribute to the collective is welcome regardless of what stage they are at in their gardening journey.
